Lake Fontana
Pay Ramps like this one at Fontana Lake fill a public access need. But how long can they stay public with skyrocketing waterfront prices in the face of the real estate development boom? This boom is not the first one and it may simply fizzle out. But it will also not be the last one. If private ramps and marinas come up for sale, NCPAF can help keep them open to the public.

This is the boat ramp at Straits Landing on Harker's Island. The boat ramp is crowded at provides a long ride across Core sound than the new WRC ramp on the on the mainland side of Harker's Island. Currently that ramp is not open to the public. Read the entire story here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NCPAF/message/1

Commercial fisherman Phil Smith uses the Carolina Beach State Park ramp. The ramp will be closed for at least nine months, forcing him to rent a slip. He said the nearby Snow's Cut ramp was already too crowded and with the loss of the CBP ramp, it will only get worse in the short term.

Sportsman's Pier was torn down in 2006 the land was subdivided and it is being sold for Oceanfront housing. Sportsman followed Triple ESS and Longbeach which also gave way to rising housing demand

Yaupon Pier was recently auctioned and now is owned by Mainstay Development Company. It is unclear if will be the next Pier converted to Oceanfront housing.
